The comfort of warm naan scooping up a cream curry is a delicious date night satisfaction. We have a lovely local Indian restaurant, but we always order our go-to favourites. Rather than housing a classic Indian menu, Bindas Eatery provides an eclectic mix of flavours from across India, with street food, grill options and twists on traditional plates.
For my blog series on unique date ideas in London, my boyfriend and I visited Bindas Eatery in Westfield, White city. With a distinctive menu, beautiful décor and reasonable prices, here is my review and recommendation for your next date night.
Why Bindas Eatery?
The owner, Mehak, received the 2018 Westfield Food Entrepreneur Award which led to a pop-up eatery. After a sell-out success, Mehak ran another well received pop-up in Mayfair before launching her flagship restaurant at White City.
Bindas Eatery celebrates food from North, South, East and West India. Mehak is known for putting her take on traditional dishes, so you won’t find her specials anywhere else. The street food is really what makes the restaurant stand out with options including ‘Papri Chaat’ and ‘Hot Treacle Cassava.’
As well as a diverse mixture of food, Bindas Eatery has a satisfying drinks menu. From soft drinks, chai & coffee and alcoholic beverages – including impressive cocktails. The restaurant caters to vegetarian and vegan diets and makes clear which dishes contain possible food allergies such as nuts and dairy.
Our experience: What to order
The restaurant is nestled in Westfield’s square where there is a nice outdoor area for al fresco dining. Inside, we were greeted to beautiful aesthetics – hanging lanterns, flowers and greenery which also covered the back of my seat – perfect for romantic date night vibes.
For starters, our waiter recommended the ‘Chicken Pakoras’ which came with aioli and the ‘Bombay Cheese Toast’. My boyfriend described the toast as the nicest and fanciest garlic bread alternative. We also loved the pakoras which was full of flavour and didn’t taste greasy.
While we waited for our mains, I sipped on ‘Gulabi Rani’ – a rose gin cocktail with elderflower presse, homemade rose syrup, organic rose petals and pomegranate. This is a delicious signature drink which in translation means the ‘Queen of Roses’.
Most of the mains contain lamb, chicken or paneer. As much as I wanted to try the lamb, I couldn’t resist the special ‘Butter Chicken Bomb’. The makhani sauce with the grilled chicken and cheese is a mouth-watering combination. My partner (a chicken aficionado) opted for ‘Chicken Makhani’ containing their signature makhani masala. Rich, creamy, not too spicy but full of flavour. All the curries at Bindas Eatery come with rice and salad. Although beautifully presented, you may want to ask for a separate plate to mix the curry and rice together.
Because we visited during the Coronation, we tucked into the special ‘Strawberries & Cream Falooda’. This was the restaurant’s take on the quintessential British dessert of Strawberries & cream but fused with the opulence of Indian desserts. A delicious layer of sponge cake and strawberries coated between heavy cream with vanilla, saffron, vermicelli, sweet basil seeds and crushed pistachios.
Some highlights from the dessert menu include ‘Butterscotch Malai Cake’ (sponge cake, butterscotch milk, whipped cream and popcorn) and ‘Chocolate Halwa’ (a sweet dish of semolina, Belgian chocolate and vanilla ice-cream).
How much should I expect to pay?
Prices are incredibly reasonable at Bindas Eatery. The ‘Street Eats’ are all under £10, mains are between £9 – £15 and cocktails are no more than £10. You can enjoy a three-course meal for around £50pp with some drinks included.
Overall thoughts of Bindas Eatery
Beautiful décor and food presentation, welcoming staff and exceptionally delicious and unique cuisine – I really recommend booking a table at Bindas Eatery. There is so much on offer that the menu will cater to both spice and non-spice lovers as well as those interested in a curry alternative.
The restaurant is situated in the perfect location. You can spend time shopping beforehand or take on a date night activity such as Puttshack and Sixes Cricket. Alternatively, with summer approaching, you can enjoy your meal and then sit outside for some drinks.
